This lot is a full sire evaluation entry, donated for auction, giving the winning bidder the right to nominate a sire into any Merino Sire Evaluation (MSE) site of their choice in the 2027 evaluation year. Entries of this kind are typically valued between $4,000 and $5,000. Site selection and nomination logistics will be confirmed directly with the winning bidder after the auction closes.

The Cause: Project Cygnet

Every dollar raised by this auction supports Project Cygnet, a fund established in 2026 by the family, colleagues and friends of the late Professor Andrew Swan. Just as a cygnet is a young swan still growing into its full potential, the fund exists to help early-career animal breeding scientists – Masters and PhD students, and researchers within five years of completing their most recent degree, both Australian and international – forge connections and gain experience beyond their usual boundaries. It funds exchange placements: sending Australian scientists overseas, and bringing international scientists to work alongside Australian hosts, at research centres and industry placements that combine research with hands-on, practical application.

Project Cygnet is administered by the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU) in conjunction with the University of New England’s Office of Advancement.
