MerinoLink Limited has managed both standard sire evaluation trials and a Merino Lifetime Productivity (MLP) Project site. The MLP 2017 drop was the seventh joining at Temora (following on from the Bluechip Livestock Sire Evaluations and Genomic project). Other MerinoLink sire evaluations were hosted at Bathurst (2021, 2022 and 2024 joinings).
MerinoLink sire evaluation trials have been hosted on properties in the Central Tablelands, South West Slopes and Central West regions of NSW, including Bathurst, Jugiong, Yass and Temora.
The 2024 drop was hosted at Nanena Pastoral, 15 minutes south of Bathurst, owned and operated by the Owens family since 1912.
The MLP site was located at “The Vale”, approximately 20 km from Temora on the Goldfields Way, operated by Marty Moses (Moses & Son).
Selection is based on the animal performing well for growth (meeting minimum body weight suitable for joining at 18 months of age) and being structurally sound with good wool quality traits, including long soft handling wool and increasing fleece weight.
