MerinoLink Limited currently manages both a standard sire evaluation trial and a Merino Lifetime Productivity (MLP) Project . The MLP 2017 drop is the seventh joining at Temora (following on from the Bluechip Livestock Sire Evaluations and Genomic project). Other MerinoLink Sire Evaluations are currently hosted at Bathurst (2021 and 2022 joinings).
The MLP site is located at “The Vale”, which is approximately 20km from Temora on the Goldfields Way or 10km from Barmedman towards Temora on the Goldfields Way. “The Vale” is a commercial farming operation operated by Marty Moses, Moses and Son.
Other MerinoLink sire evaluation trials have been located on host properties in the Central Tablelands, South West Slopes and Central West regions of NSW including Bathurst, Jugiong and Yass, NSW.
Selection is based on the animal performing well for growth (meeting minimum body weight suitable for joining at 18 months of age) and being structurally sound with good wool quality traits, including long soft handling wool and increasing fleece weight.
